We know that around 90% of the damage to our Skin is caused by the damaging UVA rays that are present 365 days of the year. We mustn’t be lulled into a false sense of security when it comes to being behind glass in our cars, offices, homes and in particular, at this time of the year, airplanes. UV rays can easily penetrate glass and in fact, on a plane you’re about 30,000 feet closer to the sun. So in preparation for your flights this Summer and so you can sit back and enjoy the ride, here are my tips for caring for your skins health when you are flying.

– Try to get an aisle seat so you’re not sitting right next to the window. If you do have to, close the blind when you can.

– When you get on board reapply your sunscreen. Don’t leave it until you land at your tropical destination to start protecting from the sun. An easy way to do this so you also look your best too, is to use a mineral foundation. I love the CoffeeBerry Perfecting Minerals which have an SPF of 25 but also give a nice bit of matt coverage & can be easily rebuffed onto the skin during your flight.

– For general skin health and to look and feel great when you arrive, ditch the alcohol! I can’t think of anything worse than feeling even more dehydrated on a flight. Sip water throughout your flight and herbal teas.

Happy flying!
