Want healthy, glowing skin? Part 1: STEP AWAY FROM THE USE OF SOAP ON YOUR FACE OR ANY CLEANSER THAT LEAVES YOUR SKIN FEELING TIGHT OR DRY AFTER.
One of my first memories of my skin therapy training over 20 years ago now was the eureka moment I had when I learnt about the chemistry of the pH scale & its effect on the skins health.
Bars of soap are highly alkaline (a high pH balance) which will strip all the water and natural oils out of the skin, causing the surface of the skin to dehydrate (what we professional call trans epidermal water loss). It also removes the protective acid mantle that forms your anti bacterial barrier. This makes a bar of soap disgustingly unhygienic too! I never use a communal bar of soap if that’s what’s available to wash my hands! It will be crawling with nasty bacteria!
Skin cells need moisture to stay healthy. Without it Acne, sensitivity and dry skin will become aggravated and worsen.
It doesn’t matter if the marketing hype claims that it has moisturising properties it will still strip the skin! So don’t be fooled!
Generally the more lather the more drying the product with the exception of some of the cleansers we work with that are also high in moisture giving Hyaluronic Acid.
